“Life is like a combination lock; your job is to find the right numbers, in the right order, so you can have anything you want.” – Brian Tracy
Life is not easy, even for those that have pretty easy lives. We all experience our own unique struggles and difficulties as we grow and live. As you grow up, you begin to learn the things that will help guide you through life, and you will have many teachers. The first people who help you are often your parents. They teach you the important morals that everyone needs to live their lives. For example, treat others like you would like to be treated, do not steal, cheat or lie, and so on. Following these principles, the first numbers in your combination lock of life fall into place, and you begin your journey.
Morals such as those are the right numbers, and if you choose to use the wrong numbers, like lying, cheating or stealing, you will find that you cannot have the things that you want. So you might cheat on a test, and initially you might make an A on your test, but in the end, you might fail the class because the teacher discovered what you did. Even if you get away with cheating on your test, you will have to carry the secret with you for a long time, which will slow you down.
As you grow from a child to an adult, the same rules and morals will continue to apply, and if you use them in the right situations, you will find more numbers for your combination lock. You find more numbers as you find and work at your job. Even if you do not have a perfect job, you should make your best effort to do your job well. Doing your job well is another way to learn more of the numbers in your combination lock. The more numbers you learn, the closer you get to unlocking your true potential.
It will take many years to find all the numbers to your own personal combination lock, and your numbers will be different from your friend’s numbers. If you try to use someone else’s numbers they will not always work, because certain numbers work for certain people. It is similar to using another person’s philosophy to solve your own problems, which might not always work.
Finding some of your numbers will be very difficult, and it might take you months or even years to learn which numbers are right for you. However, if you continue to strive to do the right thing, you will eventually succeed. Patience and determination will win you many things in life.
Once you have found your numbers, you will be able to do nearly anything you want. You will know how to react in a variety of situations because you will be wise and mature. The natural course of life will direct many people along this path, but you will also have to work to achieve your goals—to find your numbers.
So what will you do to find your numbers? Will you face the things in your life, good and bad, with patience, determination and strength? Once you have found your numbers, what will you do to help others achieve their goals?
